Today, no self-help reading or thinking. Just be the wonderful self you are right this minute.

Today, no self-help reading or thinking. Just be the wonderful self you are right this minute.

“Someone called my inspiration phone line and left this message: ‘STOP WORKING ON YOURSELF, and simply luxuriate in where you are right now, just as you are.’” SARK

I love that thought! STOP WORKING ON MYSELF! I think we all get caught up, especially in the middle of a divorce, in trying to fix everything …. mainly ourselves. We try to figure out what we did wrong and fix it. We try to fix our faces.  I recently got a call from the Dr. Oz show asking about midlife women who had bought a plastic surgery package after divorce. Okay, admit it! who of us hasn’t looked in the mirror and tried to see what we would look like by stretching our faces back like a super face lift?

We are always worried about and working on our body. We are working on getting our finances in order and being cheerful and being independent and being strong and being forgiving and being “the kind of woman we should be.” Ugh! The list is endless in my life at least of things I’M working on to somehow be better. Today, lets all just take a break and say “Screw it!” Today, I’m going to be completely happy with myself just exactly how I am. I am going to squelch all thoughts about Self Improvement. I’m NOT going to read one Self-help book or worry one single second about improving myself. Seriously, let’s all try that today! But you know what? For those of us who believe in God, the Bible says God’s Spirit in us is constantly working on our behalf anyway. When we live honoring God, he brings GIFTS into our lives. We don’t have to work unceasingly for them. Think about a fruit tree … a fruit tree doesn’t struggle and strain to produce fruit… it just goes on simply being a tree with all of its knots and scraggly limbs … but fruit appears … a gift! Let’s stop working so hard on ourselves and just be. The fruits of the spirit will show up on their own … and boy are they sweet! Like ripe juicy peaches. Let’s all keep that image in our head today!

“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard–things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity.”
Galatians 5:22 (The Message)
